Ask Karla M Grosse to name the things she is most passionate about and she’ll quickly answer: being a pre-school teacher, volunteering at the local elementary school, and most importantly, being a mother. The things that fulfill Karla the most revolve around helping and influencing others, especially children. Putting other people first is a testament to her selfless, giving nature.

Being a successful teacher is a gift. People who choose teaching as a career understand that it is not just a 9 to 5 job. It is a calling that requires much dedication and compassion. Karla answered her calling to teach by earning an Associate’s degree in early childhood education from Southeast Community College. She also holds an Associate’s degree in medical assisting. She is currently employed as a pre-school teacher.

Karla’s dedication to making a difference in the lives of children doesn’t come to an end when the final school bell rings. As a volunteer for the past five years at the Beattie Elementary School, located in Lincoln, Nebraska, Karla willingly lends her services by helping students achieve academic excellence. Karla patiently helps students as they learn letters, new words, proper sentence structure, and reading skills. She also plays an important role in keeping the lines of communication open between the teacher and parents by overseeing weekly backpack updates.

Besides helping students academically, Karla also lends her time to the Beattie Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Her many roles include managing financial aspects of the annual fundraising projects, assisting in organizing a monthly roller skating fundraiser at the local rink, SkateZone, which averages $1,000 to the school annuyally, and helps plan and coordinate seasonal events, such as the annual Fall Festival.

As a mother, a teacher and a volunteer, Karla Grosse lives her life according to the mission statement of Beattie Elementary School: “Caring, Teaching, and Learning for All…for Life”.

Outside of the school environment, Karla enjoys a wide range of activities.  She spends as much time as she can with friends and family, going to the movies, attending outdoor concerts and festivals, and eating at the local hangouts. One of Karla’s favorite places to be is outdoors. She enjoys all aspects of being outdoors from getting her hands dirty while gardening and doing yard work, to walking, bike riding and relaxing on a boat on the lake.
